Spirit of Fear [Devotional]

Spirit of Fear [Devotional]

God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline. - 2 Timothy 1:7

When my son was younger, he was afraid of roller coasters. No amount of assurance could relieve him of his fear of the park ride. He said that he had heard a story how someone was hurt on a roller coaster a long time ago in a state far far away.

We would constantly tell him that God does not give us the spirit of fear.

His phobia came from the unknown without even trying to ride one. When he got older, he slowly gave the roller coasters and other park rides a chance. He realized that his fear was not coming from something that he felt first hand, but from someplace else.

As humans, it is natural to fear the unknown. We are unsure what will happen to us if we attempt something we are not familiar with. The bible tells us that God does not give us the spirit of fear. So if fear is not from God, then it is from Satan.

Satan's job is to kill, steal, and destroy. He wants us to doubt our salvation. He wants us to not be sure of what is on the other side of this life. So he confuses us with this false fear of not knowing what will happen when we are looking at something we are not familiar with. Mainly when it comes to salvation through Christ.

He will tell you that you can't be sure that you will be safe and not get hurt. He will tell you about somebody who got hurt after his decision to follow Christ a long time ago in a state far away. He will do what it takes to make sure you do not get on that roller coaster.

But since God gives us the spirit of power, love and self discipline we are able to face the unknown with confidence and determination. We may not know what will happen at the end of the ride, but we know that we will be safe no matter what. Our life is in Christ's hands and it will always prevail over fear.

Our Challenge Today: Is there something that you or someone in your family are scared, afraid, or nervous about? Pray that God takes away that fear and fills it with power, love and self control.

Have a blessed day my friends.
